Ho-Polys

We've spent a lot of time outdoors lately, due to the arrival of warmer weather. (That would not include this weekend, where it has rained off and on since Friday.) One of the things the kids are doing is finding roly-polys (also known as potato bugs) and playing with them. Henry likes to look at them and hold them, at least until they "wake up" and start walking around on his hand. He calls them "ho-polys". :-)

Henry is talking SO much now. He is determined to learn his colors, but still struggles to get all of the names right. He gets frustrated sometimes when he says the wrong color. Way too cute.

Oh boy is he ever independent! He always says to me, "No mama. Henry do it."

His tongue is healing well. Thank goodness.

We have had some stomach bug making its way through our family. Sahara has been sick in bed since Friday, which is unusual for her. She is a healthy kid and rarely gets ill. Luckily she seemed to come around last night and was able to go to school this morning. Tim, Beth, Ezra, Kenyon, Claire and Henry have also had it to varying degrees. I think it is the same illness I had a couple of weeks ago. I so look forward to summer and consistent warm weather. We have been so sick off and on these last few months. We don't get sick very often, so this has been weird for our family. We're all ready to move past it. :-)

There are only 2.5 weeks of school left for my charter school and high school kids. Poor Matthias is in year-round school, so he doesn't officially get out until the beginning of July. He does have a break from May 28th through June 9th, so he will have a few days off when the other kids are out for good. It will just be nice when they are all out of school and we can sleep in and have fun, relaxing days. I think everyone is feeling the need for a slower-paced life. I love summertime! We all do.

I can't remember if I mentioned it here yet or not, but we've decided to move all of our kids into the public schools next year and they will no longer be in our charter school. It was a pretty big decision for us and took a lot of thought and prayer before we made the final decision, but we feel like it is the right move for our family at this time. The kids are excited about the change. Matthias is happy that his siblings will be in the same school as him and "off-track" at the same time. It will definitely be nice to have all of the elementary-aged kids at the same school. And the high schoolers (Beth, Sahara & Ryland) can drop Kenyon off at the junior high on their way to high school. One good aspect is that it makes my life easier with only having one school to drive to a day. ;-) And we're really close enough that on nice days the elementary kids can walk to and from school.

Anyhow, we've got some big, neat things going on around here in the near future that I will get more into in another post. Life is good.
